RECONCILIATION AND PEACEBUILDING FORUM HELD IN GADOON DISTRICT, GALGADUUD REGION.

The community of Gadoon district, in Galgaduud region, hosted a one-day reconciliation and peacebuilding meeting on 6 July 2026, organised and facilitated by Horncenter (HC) Dialogue. The forum brought together a broad cross-section of local society, including traditional elders, religious scholars, women, youth representatives, as well as ministers and members of parliament from the Galmudug State government, alongside other state officials.

The forum drew participation from several clans residing in and around Gadoon, most notably the Ayr, Saleebaan, and Marehan communities, with Marehan represented in smaller numbers than the other two.

The meeting was convened to strengthen peace, advance community reconciliation, and improve coexistence across the areas under the Gadoon district. Many of these communities have been affected by conflict and a severe drought in recent months, displacing thousands of families from their homes.

Officials and community members who took part in the forum emphasised the central importance of dialogue, mutual forgiveness, and cooperation in achieving durable peace and stability. Speakers further encouraged residents to work together to rebuild trust within communities and advance the district’s development.

“Lasting peace in Gadoon will be built through dialogue, forgiveness, and the shared commitment of every community to one another.”

Adding to the sense of renewal surrounding the forum, Gadoon has received substantial rainfall in recent weeks, bringing abundant pasture and green vegetation to the district. Residents point to this improved condition on the ground as one of the factors behind the strong community turnout at the gathering.

The one-day reconciliation and peacebuilding forum was organised and hosted solely by Horncenter (HC) Dialogue, as part of its continued efforts to strengthen peace, foster community cohesion, and support solutions to the challenges facing communities across the Galgaduud region.
